Basically you put the locking portion on the door at any height you want and the receiver at the same height on the door frame.
Similar to using a bar to block the lower tracks you should make sure that the length of the plate you are installing is big enough to bar the door from being raised out of its tracks but small enough to allow the door to move easily when you need to go in or out.
Measure the entry door thickness and the spacing between the entry knob and the dead bolt cylinder.
All you need is to screw a decent sized strip of wood or metal into the cavity within the upper door tracks.
This type of security bar can usually be purchased from the door manufacturer or you can make one from a piece of wood or pipe cut to the right size.
Then buy either a single or a double wrap around door reinforcement plate kit and four 1 1 2 in long stainless steel wood screws.

When you want the door locked you slide the two bolts into the receiver and your door is secure.
