In the diagram below the entry sensor has been installed on the doorframe and the magnet on the door. Magnet can be placed up to 2 inches from the sensor so sensors fit on all types of doors and windows. The magnet goes on the door or window and the sensor goes on the frame or vice versa. When the magnet is within 2 inches of the grooves on the sensor it knows the door or window is closed.

When more than 2 inches away the sensor signals that it is open.
